SMITH, Nancy M. (1934 – 2019)
Mrs. Nancy M. Smith, 85, of Barbourville, passed away Monday afternoon, November 25, 2019 at the Barbourville ARH Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Corbin H. Melton Sr. and Edythe Nicholson Melton born on March 13, 1934 in Harlan County.
Nancy was a former owner and operator of Knox County Supply and a member of the First Baptist Church of Barbourville where she was the organist for many years. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and reading.
On November 2, 1958, she united in marriage with Calvin T. Smith and to this union two children were born.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin; a brother and sister-in-law, Samuel A. and Jane Melton and a son-in-law, Casey Jones.
Survivors include her children, Susan S. Jones of Barbourville and Scott Smith and Kathy of Richmond; two brothers, Nick Melton and wife, Barbara, of Middlesboro and Hank Melton and wife, Margaret, of Barbourville; five grandchildren, Patrick Lee Smith, Nancy Hannah Asher and husband, Chris, Adam Christopher Smith, Callie Elizabeth Martin and husband, Eric, and W. Casey Jones and wife, Annie; six great grandchildren, McKenzie, Kaidence, Paisley, Ryker, Aspyn and Hendrix; special caregivers, Debbie Lawson and Holly Mills; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Saturday, November 30 at 12 noon with Rev. James Vandy and John Bill Prichard officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Chris Asher, Eric Martin, Andy Melton, Shawn Smith, Kevin Hinkle and Steve Farmer.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday between 6 and 8 P.M. and Saturday prior to the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
