Mr. Arvil Ray Trent, 77, of Green Road, passed away Sunday morning, December 20, 2020 at the Barbourville ARH Hospital.  He was the son of the late Basil and Lucy Abner Trent born on December 2, 1943 in Knox County.

Ray was a former heavy equipment operator with Anderson Construction Co., a member of the Antioch Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge 187 F & AM.  He enjoyed hunting, watching westerns, talking on the phone and dearly loved spending time with his grandchildren.

On December 27, 1963, he united in marriage with Wittie Mills.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wittie Trent; two sisters, Helen Smith and husband, Walter Jr., and Geraldine Trent; two brothers, Emanuel and Vernon Trent; nephews, Dewayne Hammons, Steven Saunders Trent and Keith Gibson; a daughter-in-law, Laura Trent; sisters-in-law, Thelma McVey, Rachel Mills, Ruby Smith and Jean Stacy and a brother-in-law, Carnel Ray Wilburn.

Survivors include two beloved sons, Michael Trent and wife, Delone, of Bimble and Scottie Trent and wife, Carla, of Green Road; a sister, Georgia Trent Wilburn of Barbourville; two brothers, Gilbert Charles “G. C.” Trent of Woollum and Basil Trent Jr. and wife, Georgia Ann, of Girdler; cherished grandchildren, Brittany Trent, Tristan Wayne Trent and fiancé, Summer Jones, Jeremy Lamar Trent and wife, Dana, and Candace Thompson; step-grandchildren, Sarah Clouse and husband, Ryan, Charles Robert Hill Jr. and fiancé, Whitney Hampton, Seth Hill and fiancé, Taylor Patterson, and Laurel Reese Hill; two special people he thought of as grandchildren, Emily and Joey Bradshaw; great grandchildren, Addalyn, Brody, Conner Ray and Parker Trent and Dawson Hubbard; among other loved ones and dear friends.

His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Wednesday, December 23 at 2 P.M. with Rev. William R. “Man” Cobb and Rev. Joe Bradshaw officiating.  A Masonic service will immediately follow the funeral service.  He will be laid to rest in the Nan Riley Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be E. J. Trent, Bradley Trent, Chase Trent, Dylan Trent, Ricky Trent, Nicky Trent, Keith Wilburn, Jeffery Wilburn and Wendell Hobbs.  Honorary bearers will be Eric Trent, Donnie Smith, Todd Hammons, James Hammons, his church family at the Antioch Baptist Church and the staff of the Barbourville ARH Hospital and Knox County EMS.

Friends may call at the funeral home Wednesday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
