Mr. Elbert Eugene Stamper, lovingly known as Gene and “Old Man”, 78, of Barbourville, passed away Friday evening, February 10, 2023 at Baptist Health Corbin.  He was the son of the late Hiram and Georgia E. Farmer Stamper born on May 16, 1944 at Mary Helen, Kentucky.

Gene was a machinist by trade.  In earlier years, he was known to enjoy drag racing muscle cars with his brothers, was an avid football fan and enjoyed collecting coins and sports memorabilia.  He was a treasured dad, grandfather, brother and friend.

On September 3, 1966, he united in marriage with Lois A. Stamper, and to this union two children were born.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Beverly Edison and two brothers, Kelly and Thomas Stamper.

Survivors include his loving children, Eric E. Stamper and wife, Rachel, of Plano, IL and Lisa R. Baker and husband, Jason, of Oswego, IL; former wife, Lois A. Stamper of Morris, IL; sisters, Charlotte Newman of Tennessee, Susan Miller of Kentucky, Patricia Stamper-Biney and Barbara Tinch both of Tennessee and Shirley Finely of Alabama; a brother, Richard D. Stamper of Missouri; treasured grandchildren, Gavin A. Baker, Caden E. Stamper and Jonathan M. Baker; among other loved ones and dear friends.

A memorial service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Friday, February 17 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Tommy Frazier officiating.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Friday after 12 Noon until the service time.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
