Mr. Herbert Hugh Sowders, 67, of Corbin, passed away Wednesday morning, February 28, 2024 at his home.  He was the son of the late Beve and Betty Shoaf Sowders born on October 15, 1956 in Pineville.

Herb was a hard working man who grew up working with his father and twin brother, Ancil, at the Union 76 Service Station.  After graduation, he began his career as a diesel mechanic for Midco, Leeco, maintenance for Trueseal and Rudd Equipment where he retired.  His hobbies were working in his garage on old cars, going to car shows, car races and camping.  Herb was a member of the Locust Grove Baptist Church.  He loved going to church and witnessing for the Lord.  He treasured the Lord, family and friends, these were his prized possessions.  When he wasn’t in church, you could find him at a ball field watching his grandsons play ball, he loved them dearly.  Herb was a kind and gentle soul, who loved talking to people everywhere he went.  He just loved life and everyone.  We will remember him as the most loving and caring husband, father and papaw, who is now with God waiting on us in Heaven.  He is whole again.  Praise the Lord.

On May 25, 1974, he united in marriage with Linda Jo Ramsey and to this union two children were born.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Marie Mooneyham Sowders; parents-in-law, Lindburgh and Lois Jean Ramsey and a brother-in-law, Doug Ramsey.
