Mr. B. P. Sowders, 84, of Artemus, passed away Sunday afternoon, April 3, 2022 at The Heritage in Corbin.  He was the son of the late Roy Sowders Sr. and Rosa Merida Sowders born on July 3, 1937 at Artemus.

B. P. was a former pipeline supervisor with Delta Natural Gas, of the Baptist faith, a Kentucky Colonel and a United States Army Veteran.  He enjoyed fishing, camping and gardening.  After retiring from Delta Gas, he loved spending time with his buddies, Bally Frazier and Novel Bond.  He traveled to as many NASCAR races as he could with his friend, Shirley Elliott.  B. P. loved a good joke or prank, but above all he prided himself on being a dad and grandfather.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Michael Bradley Sowders; a sister, Juanita Sowders-Smith; three brothers, Richard, W. R. and J. D. Sowders and Terry Wayne Miracle, who he loved as a son.

Survivors include three beloved children, Michael Glen Sowders and wife, Pam, of Artemus, Tammy Sowders-Smith of Barbourville and Angie Sowders-Schwartzkopf and husband, Eddie, of Corbin; a brother, Roy Junior Sowders and wife, Vickie, of Artemus; three treasured grandchildren, April Sowders-Gibson and husband, Matt, Megan Ward and husband, Eric, and Ethan Sowders and wife, Meagan; great grandchildren, T. J. Mills, Bradyn Sowders, Michila and McKenna Sowders, Andrew Sowders, Jacob, Brailon, Adalyn and Hunter Ward and M. J. Gibson; special friends, Jerrie Messer, Earsel and Ruth Belvins and Barry Miracle, who he loved as a son; among other loved ones and dear friends.

His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Sunday, April 10 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Samuel Lawson officiating.  He will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery with military funeral honors.

Casket bearers will be T. J. Mills, Eric Ward, Ronnie Smith, Scotty Smith, Bradyn Sowders and Jacob Ward.  Serving as honorary bearers will be employees of Delta Gas.

Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday between 6 and 9 P.M. and Sunday prior to the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
