Mrs. Gladys Smith, 82, of Barbourville, passed away Friday morning, April 7, 2023 at her home.  She was the daughter of the late Albert and Pearlie Smith Hubbard born on December 16, 1940 at Scalf.

Gladys was a former caseworker with the Cabinet for Health and Family Services and a member of the Springfield Baptist Church.  She enjoyed tending flowers and working in her yard.

On December 24, 1958, she united in marriage with her high school sweetheart, Phillip D. Smith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Eleanor Warren, Galila Lankford and Effie Brown; three brothers, Jim, Dewey and Carl Hubbard; sisters-in-law, Virginia Hubbard, Billie Hubbard, Sharon Smith, Elizabeth Powell and brothers-in-law, James Warren, Jack Brown, James Powell, Chris Smith Jr., Paul D. Smith, Harry Smith and Kenneth Smith.

Survivors include her loving husband of over sixty-four years, Phillip D. Smith of Barbourville; a sister, Berthel Blankenship of Barbourville; a brother, Lonnie Hubbard of Scalf; sister-in-law, Kathy Smith of Barbourville; a brother-in-law, Douglas Smith of Fort Meyers, FL; several nieces and nephews she dearly loved; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Wednesday, April 12 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Kennon Roark officiating.  She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Tim Mills, Chris Mills, Justin Mills, Jay Short, Chris Powell, Tony Mills and Matthew Hammons.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to her wonderful caregivers, Caroline Mills, Sabrina Marion and Betty Gibson and the staff of Bluegrass Care Navigators.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Wednesday after 10 A.M. until the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
