SMITH, Floretta (1949 – 2019)

Mrs. Floretta “Florie” Smith, 69, of Woollum, passed away Thursday morning, June 20, 2019 at Baptist Health Corbin.  She was the daughter of the late Anderson and Prudie Mills Smith born on September 20, 1949 in Knox County.

Floretta was a homemaker and a member of Horn Branch Baptist Church and she was the church clerk for over 30 years at Rock Springs Baptist Church.  She enjoyed singing, traveling and spending time with family.

On June 22, 1968, she united in marriage with Curly Smith and to this union two children were born.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Curly; her in-laws, Mary and Boone Smith; brothers, Cecil, Leonard and Gilbert; sisters, Elsa, Ethel, Elva and Lillie Mae; brothers-in-law, Will, Wayne, Jerry, Pete, Clofus, Edward, Daniel, Jabe, Tom and Willie and sisters-in-law, Bertha, Becky, Laura and Margaret.

Survivors include two children, Rita Mills and husband, Tommy, of Girdler and Gary Smith of Woollum; her grandsons, Brent Mills of Nashville, TN, Jeffery Ledington of Woollum and Patrick Ledington of Girdler; great grandson, Jude Ledington of Barbourville; sisters, Lovella Hampton and husband, Donny, of Woollum, Wilma Smith of Girdler and Susan Gregory of Barbourville; brothers-in-law, Walter Smith and wife, Cathy, and J. L. and wife, Maryetta, all of Woollum; sisters-in-law, Linda Smith and Edna Branstutter both of Barbourville, Marie Jordan of Girdler, Lula Smith and husband, Bert, of Gray, Lou Ellen Townsley and husband, Rev. Clarence Ray, of Hinkle; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Tuesday, June 25 at 3 P.M. with Rev. Dewayne Smith, Rev. Johnny Shell and Rev. Billy Mills officiating.  She will be laid to rest in the Anderson Smith Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Gary Smith, Tony Smith, Eddie Saylor, Hersel Smith, Glenn Dale Smith, Roger Smith, Billy Ray Taylor and Sean Hampton.

Friends may call at the funeral home Monday between 6 and 9 P.M. and Tuesday prior to the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
