Mrs. Cathy Sue Smith, 70, of Girdler, passed away Friday, September 29, 2023 at the Saint Joseph London Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Shelt and Minnie Pearl Bays Maiden born on February 14, 1953 in Knox County.
Cathy retired from the Commission for Children with Special Health Needs and believed in the Holiness faith. She loved crafting, shopping with family and traveling to her favorite place, Walt Disney World Fort Wilderness Resort.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Maiden; parents-in-law, Bill and Winnie Smith; sisters-in-law, Gerldine Maiden, Opal Jackson, Annlee Smith, Sallie Smith, Debbie Bright and Nettie Smith; brothers-in-law, Arvil Smith, R. C. Smith, Dennis Ray and Joey Bright.
Survivors include her loving husband of over 47 years, Daniel Smith of Girdler; two daughters, Amy Johnson and husband, Justin, and Crystal LeeAnn Garland all of Girdler; four treasured grandchildren, Caylee and Halle Mills and Jakob Daniel and Presley LeeAnn Garland; a great granddaughter, Sophia Sue; a sister, Betty Maiden of Barbourville; a brother, Carl Maiden of Barbourville; niece, Joy Maiden; nephew, Kenny Jackson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Junior and Judy Smith, John and Cathy Smith all of Girdler; Virgil and Helen Smith of Flat Lick, Gary and Lisa Smith of Woollum, Ada Ray of Corbin, Joyce and Billy Ray Jordan, Lois and Alvin Messer and Jean and Danny Gray all of Girdler; several nieces and nephews she dearly loved; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Friday, October 6 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Brian Smith, Rev. Brian Parsley and Rev. Jason Smith officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Calvin Jordan Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Mark Smith, Nick Jordan, Brandon Gray, Andrew Mays, Cody Smith, Tony Smith and Devin Smith.
Friends may visit at the funeral home Friday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
