SLAUGHTER, Aubrey “Artie” (1931 – 2019)
Mr. Aubrey W. “Artie” Slaughter, 88, of Wheeler, passed away Thursday morning, June 20, 2019 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. He was the son of the late Aubrey W. Slaughter Sr. and Ida Mae Evers Slaughter born on January 4, 1931 in Atlanta, GA.
Artie was a former coal miner with Sandy Fork Mining Co., of the Catholic faith and attended the St. Gregory Catholic Church. He was a Kentucky Colonel, enjoyed sports, especially baseball, and faithfully served his country in the United States Army.
On April 1, 1961, he united in marriage with Wilma Yancy Slaughter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma, and a brother, Donald Lee Slaughter.
Survivors include two nephews, Donald Dunaway and wife, Heather, of Erlanger and Robert Dunaway and wife, Selina, of Wheeler; two great nieces, Kiersten and Kylie Dunaway; among other loved ones and dear friends.
His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Sunday, June 23 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Sam Buchanan officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Tinsley Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Donald Dunaway, Robert Dunaway, Wade Hurst, Paul Hurst, Virgil Brown and Rex Callebs Jr. Serving as honorary bearers will be Bobby Phipps, Paul Phipps and Bill Phipps.
Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday after 12 noon until the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
