Mr. George Root, 91, of Cannon, passed away Monday morning, April 13, 2020 at his home.  He was the son of the late James and Maggie Childers Root born on May 28, 1928 in Knox County.

He was a life-long member of the Horn Branch Baptist Church and a member of the Masonic of Lodge #144 F & AM of McKee for 55 years and a Kentucky Colonel. He was a retired iron worker and enjoyed traveling, taking pictures, doing his family tree, carpentry and talking with friends.

On July 3, 1950, he united in marriage with Geneva Blanton and to this union two sons were born.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Geneva; a son, Larry Wayne Root; a grandson, Daniel Root; a sister, Nannie Wagers and three brothers, Beve, Pallas and Fount.

Survivors include a son, Gary Root and wife, Patty, of Gregory, MI; a grandson; a niece, who he loved like a daughter, Bonnie Dunn and husband, Alvin; several nieces and nephews; his church family; life-long friends, Roy Jent and Don Root; among other loved ones and dear friends.

A private family funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Saturday, April 18 with Rev. Alvin Dunn, Rev. Jerry Vaughn and Rev. Josh Jordan officiating.  He will be laid to rest in the Hampton Cemetery at Girdler.

Casket bearers will be his family.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
