Mr. Scott Wayne “Scotty” Richardson, 53, of Barbourville, passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2024 in Jacksonville, FL.  He was the son of Mary Bumgardner Richardson and the late Edmond Lee Richardson Sr. born on December 4, 1970 in Fort Worth, TX.

Following in his family’s footsteps, Scotty developed a love for racing at a young age.  By the time he was 11 years old, he had competed and won his first race.  His love for the sport grew from a childhood pastime to a lifelong passion. Scotty became a professional drag racer, best known for chasing points in NHRA and IHRA, as well as Big Money Bracket Racing. During his racing tenure, he had the opportunity to race for many well-known sponsors. He had many victories in his career including becoming the first NHRA driver to secure two series championships in the same season when he won both Super Comp and Super Gas classes in 1994.  In 2001, Scotty was ranked #45 in the list of NHRA’s Greatest Drivers. More recently, he won the Spring Fling Million main event at Bristol Dragway in 2020 and the All-Star Shootout at the Summer Fling at National Trail Raceway in 2023. Scotty left a legacy that will continue to influence the world of racing for years to come.

Scotty was the owner and operator of both Schooled by Scotty and The Winning Edge with Scotty Richardson drag racing schools. He also worked as a project manager at STB Wizard, Inc.  Previously, he worked as the Internet Customer Service Manager of Emmons Motor Company and was a track operator at Mountain Park Dragway and Edgewater Motor Sports Park.

Scotty was of the Baptist faith and a member of The Creek Church in London. He loved his family dearly and cherished every minute he spent with them. Together, they enjoyed visiting Walt Disney World, spending time at the lake, going to the beach and attending NFL and MLB games. Scotty will forever be remembered as someone who loved to tell stories, was outgoing, cheerful and “never met a stranger”.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

On August 16, 2008, he united in marriage with Savannah Good and to this union three children were born.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Gary Good.

Survivors include his loving wife of 15 years, Savannah Richardson of Barbourville; his loving mother, Mary Richardson of Texas; children, Lauren Marshall and husband, Randy, of Weatherford, TX, Kelsey Marlow and husband, Thomas, of Canton, TX, Aubrey Leigh, Boston and Cashton Richardson all of Barbourville; cherished grandchildren, Remi, Knox, Rhett, Teagan, Nash and Tatum; parents-in-law, Kevin and Gina Buchanan of Eubank; a brother-in-law, Christopher Good and wife, Candice, of London; special friend, Nellie Messer; several siblings; a host of nieces and nephews; among other loved ones and dear friends.
