Mrs. Sheila Jan Rice, 72, of Corbin, passed away Tuesday morning, November 25, 2025 at the Hospice of Lake Cumberland Care Center in Somerset.  She was born October 26, 1953 in Barbourville, the daughter of the late Sidney K. and Jewel McDonald Back.

Sheila was a former secretary at the Barbourville City School and a member of the First Christian Church of Corbin where she was a former Sunday school treasurer and served in the Operation Christmas Child ministry.

On August 21, 1971, she united in marriage with Gary Lee Rice at the First Christian Church of Barbourville and to this union two children were born.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gary.

Survivors include her loving daughters, Tanya Michelle Sawyers and husband, Rick, and Tara Leigh Morgan and husband, Kevin; two sisters, Oberia Frances Back and Tammara Kaye Garvey and husband, Brett; cherished grandchildren, Colten Asher Morgan and Keegan Alexander Morgan; nephews, Matthew Sidney Garvey and wife, Julia, and Andrew Steven Garvey; among other loved ones and dear friends who will cherish her memory.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Friday, November 28 at 12 Noon with Rev. Bob Tibbs officiating.  She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Friday after 10 A.M. until the funeral hour.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions may go to either the First Christian Church of Barbourville or the First Christian Church of Corbin in her memory.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
