POWELL, Emily Elizabeth (1943 – 2019)

Mrs. Emily Elizabeth Powell, 75, of Barbourville, passed away Tuesday evening, September 17, 2019 at the Barbourville ARH Hospital.  She was the daughter of the late Chris Smith Sr. and Martha Mae Hamilton Smith born on September 21, 1943 at Benham.

Mrs. Powell was a retired administrative assistant with the United States Shoe Corporation and a member of the Beacon Baptist Church.  She enjoyed working puzzles, quilting, crocheting, scrapbooking and studying genealogy.

On December 30, 1961, she united in marriage with James Everett Powell and to this union two sons were born.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James; a son, Danny Earl Powell; a sister, Sharon Susan Smith and three brothers, Cris Smith Jr., Paul D. Smith and Harry Bryan Smith.

Survivors include her loving son, James Christopher Powell and Pam, of Norwood, OH; Kathy Lynn Smith of Barbourville; three brothers, Phillip D. Smith and wife, Gladys, of Barbourville, Douglas C. Smith of Fort Meyers, FL and Kenneth M. Smith of Heidrick; three grandchildren, Emily Ann Powell of Cincinnati, OH, Jacob Daniel Powell and Jason Christopher Powell both of Loveland, OH; a great grandson, Oliver James Powell-Campbell of Cincinnati, OH; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Sunday, September 22 at 4 P.M. with Rev. Dennis Chesnut officiating.  She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Vora, Dr. West and the staff of Barbourville ARH Hospital and Knox County Home Health for the excellent care she received.

Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday between 6 and 9 P.M. and Sunday prior to the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
