Mrs. Daphne Smith Patterson, 88, of Barbourville, passed away Wednesday evening, October 21, 2020 at the Barbourville Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was the daughter of the late Harvey and Beatrice Messer Smith born on October 16, 1932 in Knox County.
Daphne was a former homemaker, of the Pentecostal faith and a member of the The Gideons Auxiliary. On June 11, 1951, she united in marriage with Harold C. Patterson and to this union four children were born. She worked at Patterson Chip Co. along side her husband before retiring. She and Harold enjoyed traveling to all 50 states, Canada and Mexico. Daphne had an avid love for flowers and would take pride in the variety of flowers when in bloom.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Delbert Lynn; brothers, Noble Smith, Eugene Smith and H. R. Smith Jr.; a sister, Louisa Gambrel; three sisters-in-law, Dora and Daisy Patterson and Cormaleda Marion and a brother-in-law, William Marion.
Survivors include three beloved sons, Edwin Terry Patterson of Hinkle, Alva Ralph Patterson and wife, Beverly, of Bimble and Rex Harold Patterson and wife, Teresa, of Barbourville; a brother-in-law, Wendell Ralph Patterson and wife, Ruth, of Hinkle; eight grandchildren, Vincent Patterson, Jennifer Patterson, Kimberly Skidmore, Sara Bright, Dustin Patterson, Rebecca Dillman, Melissa Conway and Kevin Patterson; 12 great grandchildren, Ty Patterson, Lauren and Emilee Skidmore, Morgan and Kyler Bright, Jenna Patterson, Ella and Alex Dillman, Harlan and Waylon Conway, Ethan and Jett Patterson; a special niece, Margaret Ann Calhoun and husband, Paul, of Bimble; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Sunday, October 25 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Keith “Buster” Liford and Rev. Sylvester Dunn officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Vincent Patterson, Dustin Patterson, Kevin Patterson, Camden Skidmore, Shelby Conway and Willie Doan.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of the Barbourville Health and Rehabilitation Center for the excellent love and care given to Mrs. Patterson.
Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
