Mrs. Linda Sue Broughton Mills, 78, of Gray, passed away Tuesday morning, February 13, 2024 at the Barbourville ARH Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Stanley Lee “Turk” and Enda Cecil Smith Broughton born July 9, 1945 in Knox County.

Linda was a retired cook from Lay Elementary School and was a devoted member of the Sinking Valley Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years and one of her favorite times of the year was when she taught Vacation Bible School.  She was also in the church’s WMU.  Linda loved to share her love of the Lord, witnessing to people and planting seeds anywhere she went.  She enjoyed sewing, baking, traveling and tending to her flowers, especially tulips and sweet William.  Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and pet, Penny.  In 2016, she wrote a song titled “Let Me Sing You A Song” which is now copyrighted, with the help of her grandson, Shane Gray.

On July 20, 1967, she united in marriage with Roger Lee Mills and to this union three children were born.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Roger; brothers, Adam Broughton, Rev. David Broughton and Vocas Broughton; granddaughter, Kayla Shanae Mills; great granddaughter, Zoey Cooper; two sisters-in-law, Janice Broughton and Ritchie Broughton and a special caregiver, Cindy Fuston.

Survivors include her loving children, Donna Cooper and husband, Gary, of Barbourville, Heather Gray and husband, Shawn, of Scalf and Roger Mills of Gray; sisters, Lovella Messer and husband, Nelson, of Cannon and Purity Lewis and husband, Pat, of Barbourville; brothers, Linville Broughton, Steve Broughton and wife, Doris, Perry Broughton and wife, Melinna, and Darris Broughton and wife, Stephanie, all of Cannon; grandchildren, Justin Cooper and wife, Vanessa, Austin Cooper, Shane Gray and Payton and Summer Mills; a great grandchild, Kingston Cooper; several nieces and nephews including Kim and Kendal Grubb who held a special place in her heart; a special friend, Marie Smith; special caregivers, Debbie Mills Hubbard, Brittany Nichols and William Aiden Fuston; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Monday, February 19 at 4 P.M. with Rev. Vernon Morris and Rev. Johnny Fisher officiating.  She will be laid to rest in the Patterson Cemetery.

Serving as casket bearers will be Shane Gray, Austin Cooper, Justin Cooper, Mark Messer, Brian Grubb, Steven Broughton, Brad Broughton and Zac Broughton.  Honorary bearers will be her beloved nephews.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Monday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
