Mrs. Billie Lois Messer, 80, of Artemus, the widow of Randall W. “Pete” Messer, passed away Wednesday afternoon, December 29, 2021 at the Barbourville ARH Hospital. She was the daughter of the late John H. “Red” and Pearl Gibson Davis born on March 19, 1941 in Barbourville.
Billie was a homemaker and a member of the Artemus First Baptist Church. She was a well-known cook at Blevin’s Market, Murphy’s Market and Miller’s Cash Store. She enjoyed working puzzles and puzzle books, but her greatest joy was in spending time with her grandchildren.
On November 19, 1961, she united in marriage with Randall Wayne “Pete” Messer and to this union three children were born.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Pete; two sisters, Betty Partin and Loretta Broughton and two brothers, Jack Keith and Doyle Lee Davis.
Survivors include her beloved children, Berchel Wayne Messer and wife, Chiquita, of Artemus, Sherry Lynn Messer of Artemus and Rodney Keith Messer and wife, Kimberly, of Bimble; two sisters, Sue Ann King and husband, Howard, of Parrott Branch and Pauline Fee and husband, Roger, of Artemus; five treasured grandchildren, Monica Jade Messer and Nathan Lloyd Mills, Berchel Wayne Messer Jr. and wife, Tara, Payton Rae Partin, Kelsey Mahan Brock and husband, Devin, and Logan Reed Mahan; three great grandchildren, Makenna Reese Messer, Briella Sky Messer and Torryn Michael Brock; a host of nieces and nephews; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Tuesday, January 4 at 1 P.M. with Rev. Dennis Chesnut and Rev. Randy Johnson officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Farley Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Berchel Wayne Messer Jr., Steve Earls, Mike Blevins, Bob Blevins, Neil Watkins and Josh Watkins. Serving as honorary bearers will be Dr. Jerry Woolum and the ICU staff at Barbourville ARH Hospital, Rodney Smith and the staff of Daniel Boone Family Health, Jerry Boles, Charlie Miller, Derick Smith and Robert Dunaway.
Friends may call at the funeral home Monday between 6 and 8 P.M. and Tuesday prior to the funeral hour.
