Mrs. Thelma Jean Merida, 73, of Bimble, passed away Tuesday afternoon, October 19, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Arthur and Reathy Childers Smith born on June 17, 1948 at Fount.
Thelma was a former seamstress with Warner’s, with her husband, she owned and operated Merida Timbers for over 40 years and was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church. She enjoyed shopping and spending time with family and friends.
On July 2, 1964, she united in marriage with Curtis Merida and to this union three children were born.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis; six brothers, John Henry, Burchell, Earl Dean, Harold, Lewis and Melvin Smith and a son-in-law, Roger Wagers.
Survivors include her beloved children, Tammy Michelle Wagers and Steven Smith, Tracy Lynn Smith and Josh Allen all of Bimble and Todd Curtis Merida and wife, Rebecca, of Georgetown; two sisters, Artie Mae Stacy and husband, John C., of Jeffersonville, IN and Alta Mae Grubb of Big Rapids, MI; a brother, Billy Smith and wife, Edna, of Barbourville; seven grandchildren, Kyle Wayne Wagers and wife, Britany, Bradly Derek Wagers, Amber Hope Hibbard and husband, Daniel, Ashton Blake Smith and husband, Jeremy, Gabriel Todd Merida, Jude Carson Merida and Silas James Merida; five great grandchildren, Preslie Michelle Wagers, Jade Olivia Jackson, Kylee Lena Danielle Hibbard, Camden Jace Hibbard and Lauren Alexis Smith; several nieces and nephews; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Wednesday, October 27 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Owen Smith and Rev. Ken Merida officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Kyle Wagers, Bradly Wagers, Gabriel Merida, Jude Merida, Camden Hibbard, Silas Merida, Daniel Hibbard, Jeremy Wagers, Joshua Allen and Steven Smith.
Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday between 6 and 9 P.M. and Wednesday prior to the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
