Mr. Virgil McVey, 72, of Flat Lick, passed away Sunday afternoon, October 4, 2026 at Baptist Health Corbin.  He was born April 24, 1954 in Knox County, the son of the late Lincoln and Myrtle Broughton McVey.

Virgil served in United States Army, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant, was a former UPS employee and a believer in the Christian faith.  He loved being out of doors hunting, fishing and gensinging.  Virgil also found pleasure in a good cold glass of buttermilk and watching movies and Lord of the Rings reruns.  Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his children.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Shawn Owens; a daughter, Kate Church; sisters, Ellen Jones, Bertha Sprinkles and Martha McVey; brothers, Lincoln Dewayne McVey Jr. and Jeffery McVey; sisters-in-law, Christine and Katherine McVey and brothers-in-law, Doug Sprinkles and Donnie Keene.

Survivors include his loving children, Linsey Lancaster and husband, Shane, of Barbourville, Cyruss McVey and wife, Courtney, of London, Aliza McVey and Brayden Smith both of Flat Lick; sisters, Agnus Keene of Green Road, Brenda Buell and husband, Danny, of Jarvis, Layla Hacker and husband, R. V., of New Bethel and Florene Beagen and husband, Joe, of Michigan; a brother, Randy McVey of Scalf; a grandchild, Taylor Warren; brother-in-law, Raymond Jones of Green Road; among other loved ones and dear friends.

His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Thursday, October 8 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Doug Hensley officiating.  He will be laid to rest in the Lincoln McVey Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be family and friends.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Thursday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.
