Mrs. Julia “Trixie” McVey, 96, of Hinkle, passed away Sunday morning, November 1, 2020 at the Barbourville Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was the daughter of the late Bradley and Alice Carnes Merida born on June 30, 1924 in Knox County.
Julia was a former homemaker and a long-time member of the Beech Springs Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, tending flowers, gardening and delighted in picking on her grandchildren.
On October 9, 1942, she united in marriage with Major McVey and to this union fourteen children were born.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, two daughters; six sons; two sisters; two brothers and four grandchildren.
Survivors include her beloved children, Wanda Engle and husband, Renus, of Bimble, Sue Gray of Barbourville, Alice Taylor of Winchester, Joyce Mills and husband, Ronnie, of Bimble, Catholeen Hinton of Barbourville and Hobert McVey and wife, Helen, of Cannon; two sisters, Roberta Smith of Heidrick and Della Bellinger of Barbourville; 24 grandchildren; several great and great-great grandchildren; among other loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Sunday, November 8 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Nathan Jones officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Obie Mills Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be grandsons. Serving as honorary bearers will be the staff of the Barbourville Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
