Mrs. Mareka M. Lawson, 86, of Barbourville, passed away Sunday evening, February 2, 2020 at her home in Bonita Springs, FL.  She was the daughter of the late Earl and Clara Logan Disney born on May 15, 1933 in Barbourville.

Mareka was manager of the former Lawson Furniture and a long-time faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Barbourville where she dearly loved her Sunday School friends.  She loved Kentucky basketball, playing cards with her family and watching blue birds play while sitting on the lanai at her home in Florida.

On July 15, 1951, she united in marriage with Gail T. Lawson in Pineville and to this union two sons were born.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Donnie Lawson and her step-mother Versie Disney.

Survivors include her two sons, Don Lawson and wife, Myrlyn, of Barbourville and Ronald Lawson of Bonita Springs, FL; a sister, Mariam Haile of Bonita Springs, FL; three grandchildren, Nina Bingham and husband, Brent, Jennifer Burke and Ronald Lawson Jr.; seven great grandchildren, Toni Bingham, Brendon Bingham, Jared Burke and wife, Destiny, Rylee Burke, Trae Joyner, Carli Joyner and Carter Lawson; a great-great grandchild, Charlie Rose Burke; among many other loved nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

A memorial service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Sunday, February 16 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Alan Dodson officiating.  Inurnment will follow the service in the Barbourville Cemetery.

Serving as honorary bearers will be Don Dampier, Brice Ellison, Eric Musgrave, Jimmy Engle, Dickie Thomas, Doug Logan, John Logan, Max Logan, Dewayne Logan, Robin Texter, Bob Rose, Tom Rose, Billy Rose and Lee Edward Young.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday, February 16 after 12 Noon until the service time.

Expressions of sympathy may go to either the First Baptist Church of Barbourville, 201 N Main Street, Barbourville, KY 40906 or to the Donnie Lawson – Jonathan Anderson Scholarship Fund at Union College.
