Mr. Herbert “Hoover” Killion, 94, of Bryants Store, passed away Thursday morning, September 28, 2023 at his home.  He was the son of the late Benjamin and Flora Woolum Killion born on July 3, 1929 at Bryants Store.

Hoover was a retired bus driver from the Knox County Public Schools and a member of the Little Poplar Creek Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.  He enjoyed music, especially Bluegrass, and playing the guitar with friends.  He also loved family dinners.  Hoover faithfully served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

On February 28, 1955, he united in marriage with Martha Woolum and to this union five children were born.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Killion and two grandchildren, Timothy Bill “Sambo” Smith and Rhonda Mae Jordan.

Survivors include his loving children, Anna Sue Smith and husband, Ricky, of Bryants Store, Garrett Killion and wife, Debbie, of Rockholds, Dennis Killion and wife, Trina, of Clearwater, FL, Margaret Killion and Bill Perkins of Swan Pond and Kim Jordan and husband, Robin, of Corbin; a sister, Brenda Mays of Barbourville; a brother, Kenneth Killion and wife, Jean, of Corbin; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; among other loved ones and dear friends.

His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Tuesday, October 3 at 11 A.M. with Rev. Bill Gray and Rev. Bobby Stevens officiating.  He will be laid to rest in the Gray Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be his grandsons.  Honorary bearers will be his church family.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Monday between 6 and 8 P.M. and Tuesday prior to the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
