Mr. Larry A. “Walleye” Jones, 86, of Barbourville, passed away Wednesday morning, February 17, 2021 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington. He was the son of the late Farris and Bessie Girdner Jones born on January 5, 1935 at Kay Jay.
Walleye was a self-employed contractor, owner of D & S Pipeline and a member of the Artemus First Baptist Church. He was a Past Master of Mountain Lodge 187 F & AM, former Knox County Magistrate and enjoyed fishing and watching UK Basketball. He was dearly loved and will be missed by his wife, son, granddaughter and great grandchildren.
On June 29, 1956, he united in marriage with Shirley Ann Rogers and to this union a son was born.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Douglas and Farris Jr.
Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Shirley Ann Jones of Barbourville; a son, Douglas Edmond Jones of Barbourville; a brother, Bobby Jones of Los Angeles, CA; a beloved granddaughter, Ashley Leann Jones; two treasured great grandchildren, Avery James and Penelope Quinn Mathews; among other loved ones and dear friends.
His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Sunday, February 21 at 2 P.M. with Rev. William R. “Man” Cobb officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Johnny Mills, Albert Mills, Dennis Rogers, Kevin Rogers, Jeff Ketchum and Jack Ketchum. Honorary bearers will be family and friends.
Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
