Ms. Esther Mae Hardy, 85, of Barbourville, passed away Sunday morning, March 13, 2022 at the Barbourville Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was the daughter of the late Eugene and Lillie Baker Hardy born on June 4, 1936 at Baughman.
Mae was a retired plastic company finisher and of the Baptist faith. She was a former Knox County Hospital Auxiliary member and a volunteer in the long-term care unit.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Oleida “Tootsie” Sowder, Juanita Louise Laughlin and Ivory O’Guinn.
Survivors include a sister, Faye Hardy Jones of Loveland, OH; two special nieces and caregivers, Lillie Carnes and Liz Matlock; among other nieces, nephews, loved ones and dear friends.
Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Saturday, March 19 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Paul Goodin officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Carnes Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be David Matlock, Matthew Matlock, Josh Matlock, Philip Oxley, Ryan Carnes and Eric Smith. Honorary bearers will be the staff of the Barbourville ARH Hospital and Barbourville Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Friends may call at the funeral home Saturday after 12 noon until the funeral hour.
Expressions of sympathy may go to the Ebenezer Baptist Church, 5636 HWY 92, Pineville, KY 40977 in her memory.
