Mrs. Hazel Lee Hammond, 90, of Corbin, formerly of Barbourville, the widow of Ted Ray Hammond, passed away in the early afternoon of Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at The Heritage. She was the daughter of the late Caleb and Martha House Creech born on November 13, 1930 in Harlan County.
Hazel attended Union College and was a member of The United Methodist Church. She and Ted were married for over 50 years and loved to travel. They visited many states and events including World’s Fairs, the Olympics and Las Vegas to name a few. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Barbourville Garden Club.
Survivors include a niece, Margaret Melton and husband, Hank, of Barbourville; three nephews, Ed Vermillion and wife, Nancy, of Novi, MI, Rex Vermillion and wife, Cheryl, of Columbus, OH and Don Hammond and wife, Deborah, of Heidrick; a sister-in-law, Pauline Hammond of Barbourville; among other loved ones and dear friends.
A private family graveside memorial service will be conducted in the Barbourville Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
