Mr. Robert Caleb Halcomb, 92, of Panama City Beach, FL, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2026 at Charter House Senior Living in Panama City Beach.  He was born July 3, 1934 in Letcher County, KY, the son of the late Grant Halcomb and Evelyn D. Sturgill Halcomb Babbit.

 

Robert, affectionately known by his friends as “Happy Halcomb,” was a man whose joy, faith and love left an unforgettable mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.  He loved the Lord and faithfully served for many years as a Deacon at his church, finding great purpose in serving others and sharing his faith.  Robert was an amazing storyteller, always ready with a tale that could make you laugh, smile or sit a little longer just to hear what came next.  He was a coach, educator, military man and a fierce protector of those he loved, especially his beloved Margaret, the love of his life and wife of 72 years.  Yet beneath that strength was a tender heart—one that could bring tears to his eyes at the sound of a meaningful song or the memory of a special moment shared with family.

 

Robert’s greatest joy was his family, and his grandbabies held a particularly special place in his heart.  He loved to dance, run, skate, bike and rollerblade, often pulling the little ones behind him and turning ordinary days into treasured adventures. His energy, laughter, stories and unconditional love created memories that will be cherished for generations. Robert lived with a full heart—with faith in his Lord, devotion to his wife and an unwavering love for his family.

 

Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Margaret Stewart Halcomb of Panama City Beach, FL; beloved children, Joy Halcomb Karcher and husband, Robert, of Panama City Beach, FL, Randy Joseph Halcomb and wife, Darlene, of Enterprise, AL and Melanie Rose Clark of Panama City Beach, FL; treasured grandchildren, Amanda Joreski, Justin Karcher, Emily Swinehart, Julia Karcher Hagen, Jacqueline Karcher, Stewart Halcomb, Robert Clark and Lauren Clark; great grandchildren, Michael, Lizzy, Abby and Maddy Joreski, Drake, Andrew, and Lily Rose Hagen, Charlie and Ward Halcomb, and Offie and Wesley Swinehart; among many other loved ones and dear friends.

 

His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Saturday, August 29 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Bobby Joe Eaton officiating.  He will be laid to rest in the W. H. Smith Memorial Gardens with military funeral honors.

 

Casket bearers will be grandsons Justin Karcher, Stewart Halcomb, Robert Clark, Michael Joreski, and nephews Stephen Davis, and Stanley Davis.

 

Friends may visit at the funeral home Saturday, August 29th after 12 Noon until the funeral hour at 2 PM.
