Mrs. Tina Chafin, 72, of Barbourville, passed away Wednesday afternoon, March 16, 2022 at the Barbourville ARH Hospital.  She was the daughter of the late Ernest and Ethel Kilgore Smith born on September 6, 1949 in Wise County, VA.

Tina was a former bookkeeper, entrepreneur, grocery store owner, and a member of the Parkway Baptist, Church where she served in the Women’s Missionary Union, and was a former Knox County School Board member.  She was a talented artist and enjoyed painting, singing, tending flowers, cooking, but most of all loved spoiling her grandchildren, who she dearly loved.

On June 18, 1967, she united in marriage with Jimmy Chafin and to this union two children were born.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Evelyn Meade, Brenda Tuggle and Sue Martin and two brothers, Howard Ray and Roger D. Smith.

Survivors include her loving husband of over 54 years, Jimmy Chafin of Barbourville; dearly loved children, Mendy Mays and husband, Terry, and Steven Chafin and wife, Pamela, all of Barbourville; a sister, Debbie Russ of Barbourville; cherished grandchildren, Madison, Morgan and Taylor Mays and Brendan, Braden and Braxton Chafin; several beloved nieces and nephews; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Tuesday, March 22 at 5 P.M. with Rev. Jerry Vaughn and Rev. Dennis Chesnut officiating.  She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be Paul Winchester, Tyler Adams, David Payne, J. P. Winchester, Travis Wilson, Travis Martin and Scott Noah.

Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday after 3 P.M. until the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
