Mr. Thomas “Tommy” Ray Carnes, 85, of Mills, passed away Wednesday afternoon, December 29, 2021 at the Pikeville Medical Center. He was the son of the late John and Minnie Warren Carnes born on July 5, 1936 in Knox County.
Tommy was a former auto body repairman and of the Baptist faith. In earlier years, he worked at several restaurants, logging and bridge construction. He enjoyed fishing, squirrel hunting, gardening, cooking and baking apple stack cakes and cornbread.
On January 2, 1960, he united in marriage with Doris Jean Davis and to this union three children were born.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jean Carnes; a daughter, Shelia Kay Williamson; a sister, Hazel Mylak and three brothers, Chester, Herald and Jim Carnes.
Survivors include two beloved children, Terry Carnes and wife, Shelia, of Corbin and Katrina Carnes of Mills; two sisters, Betty Baker of Flat Lick and Irene Collins and husband, Gary, of Guilford, IN; treasured grandchildren, Jonathan, Christopher and Daniel Carnes, Jeffery Carnes and wife, Ashley, and Cameron Owens and wife, Mercedes; a great grandson, Benjamin; several nieces and nephews; among other loved ones and dear friends.
His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Wednesday, January 5 at 12 Noon with Rev. Donnie Mills and Barry Carnes officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Mills Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Gary Collins, John Wayne Collins, Jeffery Carnes, Christopher Carnes, Jonathan Carnes and Cameron Owens.
Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday between 6 and 8 P.M. and Wednesday prior to the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
