Mr. Russell David Broughton, 73, of Corbin, formerly of Gray, passed away Tuesday evening, August 30, 2022 at Baptist Health Corbin. He was the son of the late Arnold Broughton and Mable Partin Broughton born on October 19, 1948 in Knox County.
Russell was the former owner and operator of Russell’s Meats and member of the Highland Park Baptist Church where he was a former song leader. He was also a member and Past Master of Cumberland Valley Lodge #751 at Gray and was a Kentucky Colonel. He loved to watch WLJC, sing gospel music, watch Andy Griffith and was a good provider for his family.
On June 9, 1970, he united in marriage with Ida Sevier and to this union two children were born.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Jeremiah Mills; sisters, Thelma Martin, Goldie Jackson, Connie Harris and Joanna Broughton and a brother, Wayne Broughton.
Survivors include his loving wife of over 52 years, Ida Broughton of Corbin; dearly loved children, Kimberly Mills and Russell Chad Broughton and special friend, Samantha Bair, all of Gray; sisters, Geraldine Burns and Kathy Broughton both of Barbourville; brothers, Kenneth Broughton and wife, Vernie, of Taylor, MI, Johnny Broughton and wife, Sudie, of Barbourville and Eddie Broughton and wife, Earslene, of Cannon, Teddy Broughton and wife, Sherry, of Swan Pond, Danny Broughton and wife, Rosemary, of Barbourville, Eddie Arnold and wife, Glenna, of Eastview; treasured grandchildren, Austin Doolin, Tyler Mills and Hannah Mills; among other loved ones and dear friends.
His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Saturday, September 3 at 1 P.M. with Rev. Jeffrey Branum and Rev. Don Farmer officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Beatty Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be John Ramey, Larry Eagle, Don Farmer, Jerry Garland, James Eddie Smith and Johnny Napier.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday between 6 and 9 P.M. and Saturday prior to the funeral hour.
