BAKER, Jeff R. (1931 – 2019)
Mr. Jeff R. Baker, 87, of Barbourville, passed away Friday morning, October 11, 2019 at the Barbourville Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was the son of the late Henry and Cordie Rice Baker born on November 9, 1931 in Knox County.
Jeff was a former Knox County Deputy Sheriff, former Barbourville police officer, former Barbourville Street Department employee and a member of the Flat Lick Bible Church. He was also a member of the Artemus Volunteer Fire Department and enjoyed fishing and hunting.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Lee Baker; three sisters and three brothers.
Survivors include five children, Bill Baker and wife, Jerrie, of Freemont, OH, Sharon Jackson of Artemus, Veronica Mills and husband, Haskell, of Lexington, Danny Hammons and wife, Melissa, of Artemus and Steve Baker of Barbourville; a sister, Sarah Leddington and husband, Jerry, of Cannon; a brother, Bobby Grubb and wife, Carolyn, of Barbourville; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a host of special nieces and nephews; among other loved ones and dear friends.
His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Wednesday, October 16 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Ricky Broughton officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Mud Lick Cemetery at Dewitt.
Casket bearers will be Haskell Mills, Hershel Smith, Nick Charles Baker, Jeffrey Hammons, Tommy Black, Macy Scharr and Jonah Messer. Honorary bearers will be Wilbur Bingham and Mike Smith.
Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday between 6 and 9 P.M. and Wednesday prior to the funeral hour.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
