Mr. Johnny Roy Asher, 77, of Gray, passed away Friday afternoon, May 6, 2022 at his home. He was the son of the late Johnny Denver and Ella Mae Wilson Asher born on December 22, 1944 in Cincinnati, OH.
Johnny was a retired truck driver from Christian Appalachian Project and of the Baptist faith. He enjoyed riding his Harley named Pearl, spending time with his family and visiting with friends, especially his best friend Joe, who was more like a brother. Johnny also loved listening to music, going out to his favorite restaurants, sitting on the beach, reminiscing and telling stories from the past and watching his grandson play baseball.
On May 21, 1964, he united in marriage with Carolyn Jean Mills and to this union four children were born.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carolyn Jean Asher; a son, Randall Dewayne Asher; grandparents, James and Bertha Asher, who raised him as their own; parents-in-law, Ples and Mollie Smith Mills; two brothers, Danny and Ricky Lewis and brothers-in-law, Charles and Donnie Mills.
Survivors include his dearly loved children, Kim Chesnut and husband, Pat, Elisha Fisher and husband, Greg, and Brandi Cox and husband, Matthew, all of Gray; two sisters, Mickey Hoffman and Vickie Flanigan; two brothers, Larry and Tommy Lewis; a sister-in-law, Linda Harris Smith; a brother-in-law, Allen Mills; treasured grandchildren, Trey Asher Chesnut, Brody Charles Fisher, Tatum Randall Cox and Tinley Reese Cox; among other loved ones and dear friends.
His funeral service will be conducted at the Beacon Baptist Church Tuesday, May 10 at 7:30 P.M. with Rev. Pat Chesnut officiating. A private burial will follow in the Gilbert Cemetery.
Casket bearers will be Larry Lewis, Bob Corey, Bobby Bailey, Allen Mills, Donnie Chesnut, Trey Chesnut, Dennis Chesnut and Greg Fisher. Serving as honorary bearers will be Joe Mills, Tommy Tedders, David Gross and Jim Patterson.
Friends may call at the church Tuesday after 5 P.M. until the funeral hour and at the church Wednesday between 10 A.M. and 12 Noon.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
