Mrs. Mildred “Mitzi” Gambrel, 79, of Flat Lick, passed away Monday evening, August 17, 2026 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Guy and Mayme Scalf Howard born February 6, 1947 at Flat Lick.

Mitzi was a homemaker and a member of the East Barbourville Baptist Church.  She was also a gifted artist and crafter.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Velma Howard Wiggins, June Howard Richardson, Guylia Howard Welch, Pauline Howard Graham and Lorine Howard Palmer; brothers, Guy Howard Jr. and Vernon Howard.

Survivors include her loving husband, Ronnie Gambrel; dearly loved children, Jason and Nathan Gambrel; sisters, Judy Howard Gray, Sally Howard Carver and Dorthy Howard Broughton; a brother, Don Howard and wife, Kathy; cherished grandchildren, Corey Gambrel, Amanda Rodriguez and husband, John, Jonathan Gambrel and Andrew Gambrel; great grandchildren, Alex and Lanie Rodriguez, Mason and Landon Gambrel; among other loved ones and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Saturday, August 22 at 2 P.M. with Rev. Josh Smith officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be family and friends.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Saturday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.
