Mr. Sherley V. McDonald, 89, of Gray, passed away Sunday morning, May 31, 2026 at his home.  He was born March 17, 1937 in Bell County, the son of the late John Tom and Cecille Acuff McDonald.

Sherley served the people of Knox County as a former Knox County PVA for 17 years and believed in the Pentecostal faith.  He was a former truck driver and had a passion for heavy equipment and construction work.  Sherley loved aviation and fulfilled his dream of becoming a pilot.  He faithfully served his country in the United States Navy.  He also enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family and friends.

On July 15, 1965, he united in marriage with Geanerie Helton and to this union a son was born.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Frances Moore and husband, George, and John Preston McDonald and wife, Joyce.

Survivors include his loving wife, Gean McDonald of Gray; a son, Dr. Brent McDonald and wife, Christie, of Gray; two treasured granddaughters, Lauren and Emma McDonald; among other loved ones and cherished friends.

His funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Saturday, June 6 at 12 Noon with Rev. Michael Helton and Rev. Eli Broughton officiating.  He will be laid to rest in the Barbourville Cemetery with military funeral honors.

Casket bearers will be Brian Sutton, Byron McDonald, Robert Helton, Tim Helton, Michael Broughton and Johnny McDonald.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Bluegrass Hospice Care for their excellent care.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Friday between 6 and 8 P.M. and Saturday prior to the funeral hour.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
