Mrs. Irene Garland, 90, of Barbourville, passed away Saturday morning, March 28, 2026 at her home. She was the daughter of the late Leonard and Sally Smith Bargo born May 2, 1935 at Stinking Creek.

Irene was a devoted homemaker, creating a warm and loving home for her family and was a member of the Scalf Chapel Pentecostal Church. She enjoyed baking, cooking, traveling and spending time with her family. Irene found great joy in spoiling her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. She also loved shopping and had a special gift for growing beautiful flowers, especially roses and hydrangeas.

On December 24, 1953, she united in marriage with Franklin D. Garland in Tennessee.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin; sister, Erma Bingham and brother, Curtis Bargo.

Survivors include her loving daughter, Rhonda Roach and husband, William, of Bimble; sisters, Kathleen Smith and husband, Boone, Carolyn Smith and Sandra Ledington and husband, Gary, all of Barbourville; brothers, Denny Bargo and wife, Jackie, and Ted Bargo and wife, Barbara, all of Barbourville; cherished grandchildren, Michael D. Garland and wife, Neicei, of Barbourville, Kyle Bailey and wife, Amanda, of Clarksville, TN and Joshua R. Gambrel of Knox County; great-grandchildren, Dawson K. Garland, Connor F. Garland, Jett A. Garland, Daemien K. Bailey, Sophia P. Bailey, Ethan R. Gambrel, Nolan J. Gambrel and Skyler R. Kendall; among other relatives and dear friends.

Her funeral service will be conducted in the chapel of the Knox Funeral Home Thursday, April 2 at 2 P.M. She will be laid to rest in the Hawn Cemetery.

Casket bearers will be her grandsons and son-in-law.

Friends may visit at the funeral home Thursday after 12 Noon until the funeral hour.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Scalf Chapel Pentecostal Church in her memory.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Knox Funeral Home.
