Ms. Jane Evolene Whitfield, lovingly known as “Bubbie” to her nieces and nephews, 91, of Bethesda, MD, passed away February 24, 2021 in Maryland.  She was the daughter of the late Dan R. and Cora McWilliams Whitfield born on March 1, 1929 in Barbourville.

Evolene worked for Riggs National Bank in Chevy Chase, MD from 1959 until her retirement in 1990.  She loved to travel and traveled both internationally and throughout the United States with friends and family.  After her retirement, she volunteered with both Meals on Wheels and the Thrift Shop operated by her Church, the Ager Road United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed quilting, sewing and ceramics in her spare time.  Spending time with her extended family brought her immense pleasure throughout her lifetime.  She was always available to support and help her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved sisters, Anita W. Hill, Norma Hamilton, Lois Olga Justice and her twin sister, Martha Katholene Johnson.

Survivors include her dear nieces, Karen Justice Gosnell, Sharon Hamilton Smith, Cheryl Justice Tate, Marsha Hamilton Manning, Gail Ann Hill Costello, Deirdre Justice and Janice Hill; beloved nephews, Kevin R. Johnson, Jeffrey Justice and Deric J. Johnson; cousins, Diana Mills and Alan Mills of Knox County; a host of great nieces and great nephews; along with other loved ones and dear friends.

A memorial service will be conducted at the Trace Branch United Methodist Church Saturday, September 25 at 11 A.M. with Pastor Delila Miller officiating.  She will be laid to rest in the Jones-Hurst Cemetery at Cannon.
